Analogical thinking~ Expressions on buildings etc.

These are few images of buildings, interior and objects that posesses expressions, similar to that of a human.

It is easy to locate the eyes. But the mouth could be anything, depending on how you focus on it! For me, I see a rather jovial face.

Can you see that shocked face!? Those bright lit eyes...and such a square formation of a mouth..

Taken from the MRT station, the expression seen is rather neutral...

An image of the patterns on my bag seems to have a happy expression...
I've not noticed this..til now..
It's creepy having to carry a bag full of expressions..

Unamused.

There's a few faces there actually...but try focussing on those green eyes with its mouth hanging open..
Wonder what made it shocked...

 A rather neutral face...

Is it mad on the mat!? Well, technically its actually on the carpet..

Yes. This is a wall that's part of my house.
So why do I have a rather brainwashed-looking expression painted on the wall?
The contractor didn't have enough cement..so he thought painting it that way would be acceptable. I guess that's okay then..

May look a bit blurred. But just concentrate on the papaya fruits. They've formed a smirking face! I guess they just wanted me to get my work done.

Reflection........

I didn't really get why I had to do this project in the beginning. But after some time, with my exploring on these unintentional faces, I finally understand why.
These excercise has made me use my analysis and observational skills. Furthermore, it has quite likely open up my mind to think creatively in my daily life. And I guess it was quite helpful.
As much as its an advantage with the findings of faces, its also rather creepy...
I'm starting to make up faces everywhere!!

Analogical thinking ex. 1

Select objects or images from your familiar environment that demonstrates the practice of analogical thinking.

That being the exercise, I began to brainstorm on different kinds of objects that I see or experience daily.
And with ideas in mind, I began researching. These are what I found..

Drop by Nescafe

Coffee is what I consume every morning. And finding that Nescafe had designed their coffee machine titled Drop, that bears resemblance to that of a drop of coffee, truly amazes me. It is remarkable how they came out with such a design. Just look at the resemblance!

Workaholic Pillow

Just like coffee, books plays a huge role in my daily life. I always read a book, be it in the bus or school. And it was again astonishing to find such a product as this that is designed as a book, but when you open it, it's a pillow! And the name 'Workaholic Pillow' is quite suitimg.
Well, maybe I should start carrying this around with me.

Kilian Schönberger's fairytale

Once upon a time, in a faraway land of Germany lives a talented photographer by the name of Kilian Schönberger. He went on a journey for a project titled " Brothers Grimm's Wanderings" which is the second part of his first project, " Brothers Grimm's Homeland".
Set in Central Europe, Schönberger seeked places that projects moods of the old tales by the Grimm Brothers. He didn't want to just photograph natural landacapes but to create "visually accesible places where the visitors can virtually put his mind at rest and make up his own stories".
This was especially meant for todays generation who are surrounded by top technologies and skyscrapers in every sight.

In my opinion, I think that his work and the message he seeks to convey is amazing.
Just looking at all those images gives me the feel of serenity and puts my mind at rest.
The mist that curtains the surrounding..the old, haunted look projected..The magical tranquility of the scene..are all just equally beautiful! Its different from what I am used to see, be it in photographys or even my daily surroundings.
I very much hope that there'd be more skilled artists like Kilian Schönberger who'd unveil their talent to the world, with a strong message reflected upon their work.
Without further ado, here are some of Schönberger's work from the "Brothers Grimm's Wanderings" that are my absolute favourite.

Video: Ted Talks: 4 Lesson in Creativity

https://www.ted.com/talks/julie_burstein_4_lessons_in_creativity?language=en

Watching this video of Julie Brustein, writer and radio producer, who talks about creativity and the idea of 'letting go' is indeed inspiring to me. Through her examples of artists, their works and the experience they've gone through, it becomes clear to me that " Creativity also grows from the broken places" as quoted from the speaker herself.

Julie Brustein had brought in 4 distinctive elements of creativity in this video. As equally important each of these elements are, I have to say that the last one is the most powerful. Embracing loss. Agreeing with her that this is the hardest to accept, I have to also point on how accepting the reality of a tragedy, gives us hope and optimism in our life. It allows us to change our whole perspective and also soughts us to keep our eyes open to the whole picture.

The photographer she introduced, Joel Meyerowitz, was a prime example on embracing loss. It is very inspiring how he was determined to continue photographing the World Trade Centre eventhough it took him a lot to do so. Moreover, the perspective he held was admirable. He embraced loss and it served him good.

Ending off my reflection, I'd like to re-emphasize Brustein's quote on how "Creativity also grows in broken places". I think that very phrase makes me realize how I should not always find the defined perfections but to look out for imperfections too as they do create a whole new beauty. Now, I guess I'll be able to see the whole picture be it in an artwork or my daily life.

Top 5 Favourite Fashion Designers

Fashion is a universal language. There's many different styles as there are to Fashion designers. The designers itself are the mastermind behind those styles.
And everyone has their own preference, just like I do.So in this blog, I am introducing my Top 5 Favourite Fashion Designers.

Fall 2015 Couture
Fall 2015 Ready-to-Wear

Starting off with number 1, I crown Zuhair Murad as the Best of Fashion Designers!
King of Couture, next to Elie Saab, his fashion style and has lured me into the realms of glamour and extravagance.
As sheer and flowy as some of his gowns are, he never fails to weigh it down with edginess.
Innocence and Edginess has always been elements that are hard to combine. Yet, he does it with such elegance! Just look at those images above!!

Fall 2015 Ready-to-Wear

As much as I wanted to put Elie Saab as the first, this couture designer has to settle down with second place. Unlike Zuhair Murad who frequently combine edge and Innocence, Saab  usually differentiates both elements. His couture collections, which always consist of fairytale-like influence always makes me swoon! And his Ready-to-Wear collections are normally of such Edginess that still has elegance in it. Saab and Murad, couture designers, uses similar elements of style..yet they are still different! This is why it was such a hard decision to choose between both.

Fall 2015 Ready-to-wear
Fall 2013 Ready-to-wear

Third in place, is none other than the famously sophisticated Dolce & Gabbana!!
I'm not sure where to start in expressing my awe to this brilliant designers.
Everything they create always has the touch of elegance. Which is a good thing! The materials and ornamentations they used are of pure delight!
But what really caught my attention was the accecories and the sidelines they used. All of them looks fit for royalty! Just look at that crown in the 2nd picture above. Just so wonderful!
Resort 2016
Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear

Balmain domains the fourth place! Now, this design label may not be of couture or downright elegance...but just who wouldn't love Balmain!! Well, at least I do. Such raw edginess and ferocity. And with those bold edgy cuts and rich fabrics all ensembled in one! It gives a woman who wears them, new confidence and power. I would just love having all of their apparels in my closet. A girl can dream.

Spring 2014 Ready-to-Wear

Lastly, its Valentino to end it off. It is Couture all over again. But, Valentino is very different from all couture brands!
What captures my attention of this label is the originality in all of its apparels! I've never seen Valentiono copying other designers. I guess that is why Valentino is one of the most valued and famous designer brand.
What else I love about Valentino? The influence of cultures and the appeal of folklorish in most of the collection is fascinating! Its really amazing how Valentino is able to mix oldern with modern! Exactly why I love Valentino.

And this is the end of my Top 5 Favourite Fashion Designer List!
